Saint Mary’s

Case for Support Breakdown Campaign Goal: $124,000

Formed from a small group of Polish, Slovak and other Eastern European Catholics, St. Mary’s Church was built by great sacrifice, after land was generously donated in the early 1910s by Isadore Herz. One hundred years later, St. Mary’s continues its legacy of gratitude and faithfulness for God’s blessings, witnessing the gospel as a warmly welcoming community of disciples.

Today, St. Mary’s, along with the other Cluster Parishes of Portsmouth and Chesapeake, has the opportunity to grow in communion with the local church by participating in the Living Our Mission campaign. Through this historic effort, the Cluster Parishes will advance the needs of our church for the next generation by supporting shared ministries to those who are seeking Christ in their life, especially our youth and young adults. Living Our Mission will also support our seminarians and retired clergy and contribute to ongoing formation efforts, social ministry, and outreach to parishes in need across the Diocese of Richmond.

Parish Share Goal: $41,000

Maintaining Our Facilities

One-third of the proceeds collected through this campaign, $41,000 of our $124,000 goal, will come back to St. Mary’s for the purpose of addressing the hall roof (over the classrooms); parking lot (seal and stripe); and replace the hardwood floor in the parish hall. All of these projects are vital for providing hospitality and coming together as a community for parish functions and to grow our faith. Through your generous participation and a sacrificial, five-year pledge commitment, St. Mary’s can responsibly maintain our facilities, which is essential to our parish mission and the future of our historic church, while actively supporting the shared mission of the wider church.

The parishes that make up the Portsmouth and Chesapeake Catholic Cluster, proudly stand as a symbol of all that the Catholic Church represents here in Tidewater Virginia. Some of the parishes of our Cluster go back over 100 years. With all the grace God has blessed us in our parish communities, we once more have an opportunity in participating in, Living Our Mission Campaign, and all it will do to help the Diocese of Richmond continue to spread God’s message in many ways throughout the diocese and our area.
