Case for Support Breakdown Campaign Goal: $3,300,000
For nearly 25 years, St. Michael Catholic Church has been the welcoming presence of Christ to the community in western Henrico County. In its rich tradition of liturgy, outreach, and fellowship, the parish has been a visible outpost of Catholic faith in action. As the county continues to grow, it is anticipated that more than 600 Catholic families will be added within the boundaries of St. Michael parish.
Building Faith, Ministry and Fellowship Through the New St. Michael Community Center – $2,300,000
To meet the current and future needs of the parish, St. Michael is building a gathering place – a place of welcome – where we can enhance our ministry and deepen our connectivity to each other within our diverse community. This new community center will be a 10,000 square foot home for our parish overlooking our small lake on the site of the current house behind the church.
To help us accomplish our vision, we have set a larger total goal for the Living Our Mission campaign of $3.3 million dollars. Our parish will receive 70% of the funds ($2.3 million) raised up to $3.3 million and 90% of any funds received over that goal. By conducting a combined campaign, St. Michael will be able to receive a larger portion of the funds to not only address its local priority, but also the Diocesan goals of supporting our retired priests, our seminarians and families that want to provide their children with a Catholic education.
With $2.3 million of the total estimated project cost of $3.5 million being met by the campaign, the remainder of the funding will come from two sources. The first is $400,000 on hand, which has been held in trust from our last campaign. The second will be a consolidation of our current loans that will make $800,000 available with the added benefit of leading to a reduction in our monthly payment.
The community center will allow us to address the increasing needs of our parish by providing space for ministries such as:
- A youth center for our teenage parishioners to grow in their faith and deepen their commitment to who they are as the Church.
- A meeting hall that will accommodate 120 people for retreats, social gatherings, faith formation experiences, funeral receptions, etc.
- A great room for community building with a fireplace and comfortable seating areas.
- A space for the Knights of Columbus to meet and plan their ministry.
- A kitchen to prepare food and drinks for meetings and activities.
- Storage space, including a basement storage area.
The outstanding gift God has given us at St. Mike’s is the Charism of welcoming. As we grow closer to each other, we exhibit His gift ever more fully! It is in this spirit that I wish to express my full support for the Living Our Mission campaign. I hope you will join with me in making your best sacrifice in supporting our parish and the larger ministries of our Church.Fr. Dan Brady, Pastor
